I lived in NYC until I was 27 and then moved to CA. Cali is far from a perfect place but my quality of life as an adult is a lot better. The key word being "adult" whose over 30
Basically at least half of the people I grew up with and went to school with have left. They are in Tex, GA, The Carolinas,FL a couple in CA as well and some have moved not very far (NJ,CT, Long Island) but there lifestyles are very different. The consensus amongst all of them, they all have bigger apts/houses with more space, and they all love driving to work in there new states as many began to hate taking the subway to work. It takes courage to leave but in my humble opinion, if your friend is 30 or close to, its a good choice

None of my friends from childhood or adulthood stayed in NY. They all moved out of state. All of my remaining family have left town too. I hope to leave soon, as well.

As a liberal from Texas who moved to NYC to get away from the conservatives in Texas, I wanted to say I agree entirely with this post.

Life is too short to feel outnumbered. If you're a liberal, you gotta leave Texas. If you're a conservative, you gotta leave NYC. I'm not suggesting of course that you can't be happy in those places as a minority, but I absolutely feel a lack of daily stress finally being in a place where I don't have to continually defend and explain myself.

Bueller427, you'll love Texas.

i agree! i'm not political but get along better with liberals. hence the reason i would be happier in nyc. i would rather die than to live outside of nyc.

i'm in a very conservative place right now and it causes alot of stress. my life is more controlled, but in nyc i would be free and better understood. in addition, i would never want to leave nyc, to me it's the best city in the world!

I left NY 7 months ago now I live across the Hudson in Jersey City Heights.

Why I left, rent is ridiculous and I wouldn't even think of purchasing a house there.

Everything in NYC is too expensive. I still work there but I would never move back.

IMO NY is a good place to visit but not live, and I was born and raised there.

I'm a proud born and raised girl from Queens. I even say cawfee, and Wawlmart. With that being said, I've been trying to convince my family to move out with me for the past 2 years! They aren't budging, but I can't see myself living here much longer. I'm 27, and will be pissed as hell if I'm still in NYC come 28. I'm looking at Houston, Raleigh, Atlanta, and Philly. Philly is a bit too close and cold, ATL not enough straight men, Raleigh I don't know enough about, so I'm leaning way towards Houston.

I have two other friends who are leaving, one to DC poss. and the other Philly, then Portland. I think NYC is a great city, but has become impossible to me unless 1)you already own property, or 2)make at least 80,000, even then you may still need a roommate.

Also, I think change is good for the soul, and I'm completely comfortable with leaving, then finding out I truly love NYC to death, rather than staying, and *itching all the time.
