Well, basically Im staying at College Point for about two weeks during Xmas time. Ive never been to NY, I come the UK and the reason why Im staying in College Point is because one of my matess got family there that hes visiting, and as we are a bunch of cheeky buggers we just tagged along so that way we dont have to pay for accomodation somewhere else.

Thing is, Im deeply concernced about the crime rate in that area as ive been searchin thru the Internet i have come across with quite a few off-putting comments so im starting to question whether its a good idea for us to stay there.

Should I worry or am i overreacting?

Cheers

You're overreacting.

Like much of Queens, it's working class but not dangerous.

Do a search on "College Point" in this forum and you'll find other posters saying the same thing.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of crime in College Point. Like pcity said, it's like much of Queens and it's a generally safe area.

Thanks for replying.

I did a bit of a research in this forum first, but the general opinion was actually quite bad in terms of crime and so on, thats what actually put me off a bit, but Im more relieved now.
I suppose well be alright anyway as well be in Manhattan most of the time, and worst case scenario well just get a cab to take us back home late in the night anyway.

I live in Queens and I didn't even know College Point was supposedly a bad area. I think you''ll be fine.
You are saving $$ by staying with people and not getting a hotel, so use a few extra bucks for cabs if you need them, and don't forget to do something nice for the family you are staying with!
