I'm from the West and I'm thinking of taking a vacation to NYC someday in my lifetime. Besides, my sister's planning on moving there.

- Currently, how are race relations in the city?
- How is the NYPD toward minorities?
- How are the women and citizens in general? Are they friendly?
- Are there any areas with no crime or gangs?
- Where to go for fun while on vacation?
- Where could you get a rental car?

NYC is considered one of the safest big cities in the USA.
There are plenty of places of interest to tourists in NYC. What are you interested in?

It's a VACATION - why are you asking about race relations and the police?

You do NOT need a car in NYC. And you won't WANT a car in NYC. Parking is miserable on the street and expensive in garages. We have an EXCELLENT mass transit system that's efficient and economical.

Its new york not a third world country. you make it sound like we live in a police state! Take it from me I live on a police block. There are just as many minority police officers as their are minority people.

The majority of tourist areas are perfectly safe during the day and night, though one needs to be a little cautious as they would be in any large city. Most tourists do not go into areas that have higher crime rates, for a variety of reasons, chief among them is a lack of a tourist attraction in the immediate vicinity. As for what to do for fun, there's just so much to do that it is difficult to narrow it down, but rest assured that you will have fun in New York.

First off, yeah like viral said...it's a vacation...so possibly the 1st 3 questions you asked are irrelevant.

Secondly, everywhere you go...some people are friendly, some people aren't. This is true of New York and any other city. It's not that New Yorkers are not nice, it's just New York is fast-paced and people don't really have the time to chit chat. If you are going to order from a bakery and chat with the baker for 15 minutes, you can bet your butt the people in line behind you wont be too happy.

Nowhere is completely 100% crime-free. Again, true of all cities, not just New York. New York is relatively safe, provided you aren't walking around Brownsville or something at midnight by yourself. Be smart, use common sense, and you will be fine.

There are a ton of things to do. I can't really give you ideas b/c I don't know where in the city you are going to be. Search online, there's a zillion things to do.

Rental cars can be rented at the airport, but yeah as a previous poster stated, you definitely do not want a car in manhattan. It would be so much of a hassle, you are much better off without it.

That doesn't narrow it down. Your best bet is to buy a guidebook or check one out from the library.
