I ask on behalf of a family member. Graduate from a Top UK University, background in search and selection (recruitment/headhunting) in the IT sector (5 yrs +) and recently working for a financial publishing company - venture capital and corporate finance. Late 20s.

Any advice on NY based recruiters who could assist him would be welcome. Cheers.

This is not a good time to try to find a company to sponsor a visa to work in the US. There are gazillions of highly qualified people here in the US (including NYC) out of work from whom to choose. No company is going to be willing to pay for the paperwork/visa when there are abundant choices for any firm - and they already live here.

What do you mean by a top UK university? The only ones that really hold weight in the US are Oxford / Cambridge, and LSE for finance.

What does your relative want to do? If he/she is skillful enough, there are recruiters on LinkedIn that would contact him. I've gotten 4-5 interviews through that site. And even if he is contacted, he would need to travel to NYC to interview.

FYI, I was on efinancialcareers.com the other day and for every job posting that was based in NYC, there seemed to be at least 5-10 based in London...so it doesn't look like the employment prospects in NYC are great right now compared to other places.

By "top UK" I meant Cambridge. Is that "top" enough? Didn't want to make him seem like yet another Oxbridge graduate looking for work in the Big Apple!!

Cambridge is a good school. I would see if he could leverage off of the alumni network he has - I'm sure there are plenty working in NYC.
