Fred although 90% of voters are Democratic, what have we been seeing over the past 5 elections? Rudy Giulian a Republican for 2 terms, and Bloomberg an "Independent" for 3 terms. That tells me the residents, those that care enough to vote that is, want a person that can get things done, and not just a Democrat. Which is yet another reason why Thompson lost..he provided no plan, no agenda, no platform for NYC, or how he would achieve anything, nor any prior concrete achievements to point to. The reality is Thompson was a joke, at least the campiagn he ran, same goes for Ferrer. The city does not want to go back to the nonsense of the early 90s, which is why until the Democrats produce a REAL candidate, everyone else will keep getting voted in. I only hope that Ruben Diaz does NOT run in 2012, he is a product of the same Democratic machine that has sunk the Bronx, and he will be a horrendous Mayor.

whoops I meant 16 years going on 20 years...
I agree with SobroGuy.

On another note...there is such low voter turnout that generally the special interest groups can have their way. Check out the democratic primaries...whichever candidate the Working Families Party supported...ultimately won. And of course primaries and the special electionhave even lower turnout.
