Maybe you just arent cut out for this kind of life
I appreciate your inputs but You don't really know me and what I have been through to make that statement. In this particular situation, I am not in an apt. If I were in apt, it would be easier because I would have prepared earlier and of course I would know when the lease is up. in this situation, they took me by surprise and I was not prepared because I see some women in that place who have been living in that place before me so i thought that their rules are not very strict. still wondering why they pick some and leave others?
anyway, I am not here to defend myself. I was just trying to get an advice on a proposed budget. it sounds like most of you don't agree with it. so now, if I let that studio go, what are my alternatives?
your alternative is queens, but if you refuse to do that, you may be Mod cut: language.

you'd probably be right but a basement apartment in queens might be better than the womens shelter or a roomshare. At least she would have her own space....not to mention, maybe even a TV and some other luxuries.
Yes, that's true. It is probably one of her best options.

jdawg's suggestion is a very good one about a basement apt. in Queens.
Also, the Bronx is known to have very good values on apartments. You could search the board to find out about which neighborhoods you could try.
However, you already told us you won't accept anything in the outer boroughs, so I guess another alternative is to live in Manhattan and run out of money in a few months, and return to your country.
you guys keep saying Astoria.. go to Graigslist and see how much is it for a studio in Astoria? the SAME price. My studio in Manhattan is 1200 + 100 utilities. In Astoria, it is 1000-1100 + 100 utilities + 100 subway.
No your manhattan studio is $1300 + $100 subway which is $1400 and Astoria is (lets use) $1100 +$50 utilities + $100 subway is $1250. That gives you an extra $150. (Plus groceries and other stuff is generally cheaper outside of the city). I wouldn't take the basement with no kitchen. Oh earlier I mentioned cutting out Taxi and finding cheaper membership to a gym...also agree with those that say cutting cable TV. It really isn't necessary...plenty of things to watch on regular TV and on the internet.

I have to tell you that I did the math several times. the difference is something similar to your number ( something like 100- 150 dollars a month).it is not that big difference.
the manhattan studio is front facing but if I take another studio that faces the back, it is 100 dollars less.

is it really that important which way it faces though? I'd be more concerned about my quality of life than what's outside my window.
