Are you fine with Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" being the anthem of the city? (New York: 2013, move)

Is it really the anthem of the city or is it just a song about New York that happens to be popular right now? I think it's the latter, which I don't mind, though I'm not a fan of the song.

I think its the NY Yankees anthem. And I think the song is growing to be a NYC anthem with Bloomberg giving Jay-Z the "ok."
I guess that Jay-Z is somehow not guilty of plagiarizing Billy Joel's title, "New York State of Mind." In any case, if New York City has to have an anthem at all (and I don't necessarily think it does), then Sinatra's classic should be the one.

I am not cool with this Jay-Z song being the anthem of the city, particularly because he utters the N-word in it. I hate hearing that word and hate how it has become so common for young people to use it. I cringe everytime I am in subway and here all these 13 yr old kids use that word like it is a first name.
Liked it the first time I heard it. And now I don't. It's getting more airplay than it should. I thought there was some sort of alternate version to remove the drug references and expletives. Guess not.
I prefer NY State of Mind by his once "rival".
