Computer Overhauls on 7th Ave. has cheap ones. Their Dell Latitudes recently dropped from $399 to $279. They also have ibooks for $600-700 i believe.

*edit* forgot to mention that their computers are used though.

Craigslist...for $600 you can prob. snatch up a good used Powerbook (Apple). Just make sure you get SEVERAL recent photos of the laptop they're selling.

For a good deal on a computer, I definitely recommend Micro Center. They are not in the city, but on Long Island and in New Jersey, but I have always been satisfied with my purchases from them, especially since the staff can talk to you about the machines and do not needlessly push you into the next most expensive unit.

MicroCenter

If you want a place in the city, check out J&R on Park Row. Again, I have used J&R for many, many purchases, including computers and have been very happy with the price, selection, and service.

Go to dell.com, they have basic laptops that start at $499. Shipping is usually free, but there will be tax. They also have a great refurbished area where you can find some good deals on laptops or desktops.
