My girlfriend and I are going to New Jersey over Thanksgiving weekend, and want to stop off in NYC for a day...we don't want to park in Manhattan given the expense, so I was thinking taking the 1 train in from Riverdale. My question is - are there any parking garages in Riverdale (or the surrounding area) near a subway stop? How much are they for a day?

Why Riverdale if you are going to be in NJ? Doesn't it make more sense to find a garage in, say, Jersey City, and then take the PATH train in?

That's another idea...I thought Riverdale since I am coming from the north, so we would get there first. But I haven't found too much in terms of parking over there, so Jersey might be the next option.

There's a garage right near Broadway & W230th, right under the 1 train. It's off Exterior, in a dark brick building, at that intersection, opposite the Dunkin' Donuts. You could catch the subway at the 231st or 225th stations. There used to be an open lot on Boadway behind the Walgreens at W231st, but it has been closed as of late.

There are other garages across the Broadway Bridge in Inwood (around W216th) that are also convenient to the train. I think that these garages run from $15-20 for a day, but they are under $20 for the day. You can catch the train at W215th from those garages.

Default you could try parking

on Broadway just north of the 1 train alternate side of street parking has been cut in half(my side of the street went from Tuesday and Fri 8AM-9:30AM to thurs 11:30-1PM)

there is even free parking on 251 street and Lakeview Place and Post Rd but you'd have to walk to the 1 about a 10 mins walk
