So I was watching something on TV and they were interviewing the owner of Costco on the opening of Costco in New York. I thought that was pretty strange to open up a Costco there since so much of getting around is done via public transit...in which it would be pretty hard to drag bulk items around. Just wondering if you guys shop there and what's your opinion on it opening in the city.
I'm sure you mean Manhattan - there's another Costco in Long Island City. The parking for the Manhattan Costco is across the street and with an elevator. Very annoying. Plus, they're going to charge for parking.
I got something in the mail about the Costco a few weeks back (as I'm sure everyone that lives in or around Manhattan did ). It was sort of sparse on the details, but I live in Midtown West (quite a haul from 117th obviously) and was wondering if they delivered? I don't see how they could do much business in that location if they didn't deliver for a reasonable price.
No, they don't deliver, but I have heard that due to demand they are thinking about it. We have a Costco here in Brooklyn which we belonged to years ago, but we dropped our membership when we got rid of our car.
Another issue with New Yorkers is storage space when making bulk purchases. I know some people who share their memberships with friends and split up the big purchases.
There's also a Costco in Sunset Park in BK adjacent to the BQE. It has a decent size parking lot if you have a car but I sure wouldn't want to haul bulk items on the R train from 36th to 95th!
That's the one we used to go to before switching to the BJs in Middle Village, right next to the last stop on the M train. Much easier if one wished to take the train. I can't see how one of those wholesale warehouses would work in Manhattan.

that's really what i'm wondering too...you guys see it working out in the long run?
