How far apart are they? Is Macy's in walking distance and can we get to Macy's within a 2-hour window? Thanks. You've all been very helpful for restaurant suggestions so our next stop is Macy's to see the decorations.

Yes, it is very walkable, just 16 short blocks down 6th Ave. You could do it in about 15-20 minutes.

Keep in mind, the crowds at Rockefeller Center/Radio City and at Macy's are very dense during the holidays.

Thanks Upstater. I think we'll give it a try.

You could also take a very quick 2-stop subway ride on the B, D, F or V trains if the weather is bad.

That is an understatement... if you venture near Rockefeller Center at Christmas time, it will literally take you 15 minutes to get a dozen feet, it is THAT crowded... and you WILL be literally shoulder-to-shoulder in the crowds.

Yes. I remember a few years back being in that area right after the Rockettes Christmas show let out. 50th St. was like a slow-moving river of people literally shoulder-to-shoulder.

We just talked about maybe taking the subway to Macy's. Not sure that two women from Delaware are ready for the subway in NYC. I'm a Philly girl at heart, but it's been years since I have taken public trans.

The subway should not be too daunting in Midtown, during the day. But, you can always stroll over to 5th and take the M4 bus to 34th Street and walk to Macy's. It's easier than walking, if you don't like the subway, and is not much longer in duration than the subway; however, traffic can be very congested on 5th, so you might walk to 7th Avenue and take the M7 bus to Macy's.

The bus might work. Do you know the cost?

$2.25 is the current fare for the local bus per ride, the same as the subway. If paying by cash, not Metro Card, bring change (dollar coins work) since the dollar bill slots were taken by the Metro Card slot.
