I know summers a while away, but it just occurred to me that my spouse is a beach lover and selected Bayside over LI for her own reasons (closer to city, less gangs, (i don't know if it's right or wrong)

anyway , can someone tell me what our options are and also how long it will take to get there? (We don't want Jones Beach, too noisy)
If we are queens residents how much do we pay for Robert Moses? Is R.Moses our only option?

Thank you

Maybe Riis Park in The Rockaways( Queens). Lots closer than Moses or Jones Beach.I don't know if it's any less " noisy".
Jacob Riis Park (http://nyharborparks.org/visit/jari2.html - broken link)

I think you only have to pay for parking at Robert Moses Beach, we live in Southeast Queens and that's where we go.

That all depends on which area of Long Island and NYC you live, just like in any other area.

As for a good beach, I would recommend Rocaway Beach if you're in Queens. Its a great beach and isn't too long if you have a car.

Rockaway Beach happens to be one of the best beaches on the entire eastern seaboard, and it's free! (Hint: the further west you go in the Rockaways, the more exclusive it gets. By the time you get to the Beach 140s, you're in the Neponsit neighborhood. If you've never been to that part of the beach, trust me on this: you'll have to pinch yourself as a reminder that you're still in Queens. It feels like a private beach in some fancy suburban community!)

Although Bayside is in Queens, it would probably be easier to reach Jones Beach by car than much of the Rockaways. You will be on parkways all the way to the beach. As for the Rockaways, as someone said the beaches tend to be better the further west you go. There is also a cool fort (Fort Tilden) which is just west of Riis Park.

From Bayside you can even go north into The Bronx and go to Orchard Beach. It is not likely many people from Bayside do that as you have to pay for the bridge and Orchard is not on the ocean. But it is nice Baysiders have the option.

In fact I would say the Bayside area is a very good location with 4 major highways and the LIRR leading in all directions. Located on the border of Nassau, it is easy to go out to the Island. Located in northern Queens, it is easy to go north to The Bronx and upstate.

Neponsit has ZERO parking from May through September. Belle Harbor has some parking weekdays & ZERO on weekends. That is why it is a great beach. If you can get a parking spot around Beach 102-106 st or Beach 111-114 st they are realtively nice.

Your best bet will be Long Beach (http://www.longbeachny.org/vertical/Sites/%7BC3C1054A-3D3A-41B3-8896-814D00B86D2A%7D/uploads/%7B11044C9A-8791-4926-AB5A-3339051B24F8%7D.PDF - broken link), again parking can be a premium on weekends and it is $10 admission.

If you want a quiet beach:

1. Jones beach / Rockaways during the early morning or off-peak season.

2. Long Beach (much more pricey as it's per-person fees, but keeps it quiet).

3. Robert Moses (more expensive than Jones and a bit further drive).

Honestly, when we want a quiet, pristine beach, we go to Florida (if we can afford it).

Default Bayside

Jones Beach. I own a 3 bedroom co-op for sale in Bayside. Huge rooms, 2 parking spaces - Bay Terrace area. Renovated kitchen (gorgeous) and renovated 2 bathrooms. Interested?
