I moved 2 months ago in an apartment in manhattan.
After 1 week I discovered over my head I have a jungle of cell antennas and the owner didn't avised me. Later with the begininng of the cold season I had to ask to put on the heating because heating was not working. After I was over 2 days without hot water. Now my bedroom is an hell. Heating is too high, there is no way to regulate heating. I wake up every morning with dry mouth and sore troath. If I leave the window open in the night when the heating goes off I start to freeze. I want change apartment, spoke with the landlord and she said I have to find a new tenant.
Possible I can't leave and I'm responsible for payments untill the end of the lease. I think I have a "standard" lease contractstating in abandonment:
if you move out of the apartment (abandonment) before the end of this lease without the consent of the owner, this lease will not be ended (except as provided by law following owners unreasonable refusal to consent to an assignment or subletting requested by you) You will remain responsible for each monthly payment of rent as it becomes due until the end of this lease. In case of abandonment, your responsibility for rent will end only if owner chooses to end of this lease for defaultes as provided in article 16.
Possible I cannot give a written notice 30 days before and simply going away? I don't care loosing the deposit, I want simply leave this hell of apartment
I'm not getting sick from the cold, I'm getting sick from the hot. The air in my room is extremely dry and the hot is suffocating.
If someone likes the price and want to sign for my lease is welcome
Generally, you'll find that NYC apartments are overheated. Mostly because in order to get heat to ALL the apartments, the heat really has to be cranked up. Especially in older buildings. And there usually is no individual thermostat in each apartment. BUT, you can open the window, which is what most New Yorkers do.
