there is alot of racism there but not really towards dominicans. LOTS of racism towards chinese. I think the Italians are tired of them coming into the neighborhood. And they express it outloud. But there are alot of hispanics in near by Bay Ridge. Not sure if they are dominicans though. Maybe you could check that out. Truthfully I think you would be ok there. There are alot of Russian people some it might be strange because alot of the store owners just speak russian. The neighborhood is a strange balance of some poverty stricken areas to very wealthy blocks. Also its a crazy mix of many cultures so there is bound to be racism. I really like the neighborhood though because its really one of the last kind of old school middle class new york neighborhood left in Brooklyn. Check it out.

There is a mixed bag of people here.
On my block alone, I know Italians, Irish, Pakistani, Indians, Russians, Ukrainians, Chinese, Finnish (probably the only ones in the whole neighborhood lol), Puerto Ricans, Greeks.
Yes, in just one block!
The majority of people here are, ofcourse, Italian. But that is quickly dwindling as the Chinese immigrants continue to arrive.
Honestly, you won't find any racism towards hispanics here (as you won't in any part of NYC)
The only racism I've witnessed was some middle-aged Italian guy screaming "Go back to China you piece of ...." to an elderly Asian man on 18th ave.
Don't worry. Bensonhurst isn't what it was 20 years ago. Not at all.

I don't think that many Hispanics live in Bay Ridge. Most of them live in Sunset Park, which is north of Bay Ridge. The hispanics live to the west of the park and the Chinese live to the east. The Belt Parkway/BQE is the big diving line between the neighborhoods.
Bay Ridge is still mostly Italian/Irish people, however that is quickly changing. Lots of Arabs live in Bay Ridge and there are some inflows of hispanics and especially Chinese. The Chinese seem to be setting up shop all over Southern Brooklyn. Maybe in a couple of decades all of Southern Brooklyn will just be considered one big Chinatown? .... I am not too sure many people originally from this area look forward to this prospect.

Maybe I was in Sunset Park Instead of Bay ridge. Woops. But yea Southern Brooklyn is getting taken up by Chinese real quick. Chinese immagrants seem to like Italian neighborhoods. (Cliffside Park, NJ Palisade Park,NJ Fort Lee,NJ) Its impossible to drive through any of those areas. Nobody seems to get the concept of the car.

I honestly think most Asian immigrants are afraid of Black of Hispanic people. The Asian immigrants always seem to migrate towards white neighborhoods that are safe and somewhat cheap.
The usual patern is that a couple of them move to a neighborhoods, the white folks think that their neighborhood is going to hell after a couple of signs not in English have been put up, and then the white people start leaving. Once that begins more Asian immigrants arrive and more white people keep on leaving until the neighborhood becomes almost entirely Asian. The classic example of this is Flushing, but as you've pointed out this has happened in other neighborhoods and even Jersey.
The eastern part of Sunset park is almost entirely Chinese (I forget what road is the dividing line between the Chinese and Spanish sections though ,but you can definitely tell where it is when you drive from one to the other). Other parts of Southern Brooklyn also are having a huge influx of Chinese people. Two neighborhoods that come to mind that this is going on are Gravesend and Sheepshead Bay. Bensonhurst is of course another.

If you reckon that Asians migrate to white neighborhoods because they are safe and cheap, then are you also implying that hispanic and black neighborhoods aren't?
Bensonhurst is definitely racist, even little kids, how sad.

Gravesend has Chinese residents - especially around the Avenue U and Neck Road stations on the Q. As for Sheepshead Bay - it's going totally Russian.
