I will be in NYC in March and do not know what to expect with the weather or what to pack. Any suggestions?

Thats a long time away. The weather in March can be either really cold and we can still get some nasty blizzards or relatively warm. The only thing you can honestly do is play it by ear.

It's going to be really cold. It doesn't warm up consistently until late April.

It depends. Sometimes its a lot colder in March than it is in February I've noticed but I also remember times that it has gotten pretty warm like in the 40's-50's by the end of March. You know the weather can be unpredicctable but for the most part, March is usually one of the colder months.

February is usually the coldest month. Expect temperatures in the 30s and the 40s. Here's a useful site:Climate in New York City - Citidex New York City

I was told to buy the right type of shoes if not my feet will end up cold and wet. I was going to buy tennis, now what is the right kind?

Also what are feet plasters?

Bring layers. Also a coat. Always bring an umbrella (even if you go to Aruba).

Do not wear sandals or mesh-shoes (yes, your feet will get wet when it rains if you are walking outside). Sneakers are fine if they are not too mesh-y.

Where on earth are you from that it doesn't rain????

Lets put it this way: in 1990 it was 85 degrees on March 13. But the blizzards of 1888 and 1993 also occurred in March. So it's a very fickle month.
