Hi,

Earlier this year my job took me to an overseas location, with no near returning date in sight. In my absense, my landlord returned the November rent (money order) with a letter saying (1) the apartment was no longer my primary address, (2) I let other people live there which is bleaching of the lease contract, therefore I must vacate immediately (yes, I do have two subletters in there, with one of them formally in their record though not on the lease). It was already the time to pay for the month of December when a friend picked up the letter and the returned money order, which is how I found out.

I took the eviction letter seriously, and moved all my belongings from the apartment as of 12/12/09 and have asked the subletters to move no later than the year end. Except now the management says I can stay till the lease expires next spring and demands the December as well as November rent.

Am I reponsible for the December rent, when they turned me out the way they did despite the lease? I am willing to send back the returned November rent, but I feel I don't owe them for the December as I don't expect to see my security deposit (a month's rent).

Thanks so much for your invaluable inputs,

Squirrel Nutkin
