I am trying to plan a route for my brother who is moving from Wisconsin to the Astoria area. They were thinking of avoiding Manhattan to get through to Queens and instead go via New Jersey to Staten Island, Brooklyn, and into Queens. They will be towing a trailer. To me, it looks like Staten Island and Brooklyn are so crowded as well that they will not be saving any time (or may take more time and are just wasting gas) by taking the longer route. Then again, I have never been there and may be wrong. Does anyone have any advice as to which route may be the better choice? Thanks!
It really depends on what time of the day or day of the week. If traveling at night or on the weekend you can take the Lincoln Tunnel and cut across midtown no problem to the 59 St Bridge or tye Midtown Tunnel. Other than that you may have better success going SI to the Brooklyn-Queens expwy.
