Washington/University Heights was always what I heard, but I wasn't denying the drug trade... just the fact that we have guys who are basically guarding one apartment building like it's a tower, and literally, no one being able to approach it unless they have business there.

I see, something out of New Jack City is not as prevalent anymore these days.

Sounds like a crazy shootout in the Bronx...

Man shot to death after wild chase in The Bronx - NYPOST.com
I tell you what....the north-east Bronx is no joke. Area is saturated with drugs. You see less of this in the south Bronx now. The north-east however, is now the perenial leading homicide precinct in the borough.

Yeah its interesting how things are changing in the borough. Not sure how this will effect policing, b/c they really cannot just release the South Bronx from the grips of Operation Impact..that's really one of the main drivers for keeping crime down in the area. Overall it has really been quiet down here, and I keep wondering why...it just seems really strange to me. It's a good thing, but I also think other areas, like some parts of the West Central Bronx need more attention.

Speaking of Central Bronx... where are all the cops in Morrisania? I walked fifteen blocks to the Prospect Ave train station and I saw some shady characters along the way, but where were the cops... at the train station, waiting for fare beaters. Sounds like their priorities are not right at all.

Yes as I stated, the few times I am in Morrisania (which is very rare), I don't see nearly the amount of police presence as I do by me. I can sit on my stoop and watch a police car, police van, unmarked car, unmarked van, drive around in circles within a 15 minute time span. I think there is a real effort to change the area, and the new housing and amenities flooding in supports that theory. However, it may be coming at the expense of other neighborhoods, like those in the central/northern Bronx...but this is just a theory.

i normally check the police stats and crimes online on nypd , and so this whole year so far staten island was at 3 murders, i just went to the updated nypd stats and it now says staten island had 2 for the year(not including the murder in mariners harbor projects last week).

so whats up with the police lowering the number from 3 - 2 hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Default 6 Shot at Queens Reunion Party - Awful

6 Shot at Queens Reunion Party (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37300477/ - broken link)

WHY are young people doing this to themselves?

First of all, this event was promoted on Facebook so it had the potential to be enormous. Any party this size should have required registration with the NYPD, who should then have required the promoters to have police present, and there should be a fee involved. Maybe if you have to pay to play, you'll be more responsible. I'm all about the safety of attendees and community members, not trying to squash anyone's fun. We have street fairs and festivals all the time in my neighborhood with no incident but we also always have police on hand. I don't understand how this happened. It was ridiculously mishandled.
