Okay, so next month, my 11 year old has off from school for a week. We're planning now what we want to do. We're thinking of going to Chinatown since I haven't been there in decades and she's never been.
I checked out the Chinatown NYC site, but it really isn't much help. Yes, it lists all the stores, restaurants, etc. but the event calendar is empty and it doesn't really give you any regular info on the site.
Sooooo, does anyone here have any suggestions on where to go, what to do, what streets are the best?? We just want to walk around, take in the sights, take some photos, have an inexpensive lunch, maybe buy some trinkets (nothing expensive).
Jing Fong for a dim sum lunch. 20 Elizabeth Street - up the escalator.
My daughter isn't that adventurous. Whenever we go out, she orders grilled cheese, ravioli, or pizza. LOL!!
She does like the steamed or pan-fried wontons w/sauce or wonton soup or shrimp w/veggies so maybe we can find an inexpensive place where she can get that.
I can't remember anything about Chinatown --- that's how long it's been since we've been there. Canal between which streets? We're basically going to be sight-seeing, taking pics, picking up some trinkets, etc.
There's a place called Pho 51 or something on Mott street going in the direction away from Little Italy. If you turn right onto Mott it is probably 3 blocks down on your right, just after an Ichiban candy store. It is super delicious, clean, and cheap. I reccomend the Pho.
Otherwise just walk around any street and take in the sights and smells. Chinatown was my favorite place that I visited in NYC. It's quite an experience.

Canal st pretty much the whole way across town. I would start somewhere around Canal and W. Broadway and walk east. The whole street is filled with little cheap shops- plus you can always talk down the price on anything in them.

You can try NY Noodle Town, I think its at the corner of Bayard and Bowery...They have good wonton noodle soup, and they should have dumplings too. Its pretty cheap there also.
I think there is an information center at the intersection of Canal and Baxter.
Try the bubble tea, your daughter might enjoy that.
