Default Hospital maternity rating

My wife and I are moving to NYC in the next month or so. She is pregnant and we it would be nice to get a place near a good Hospital.
Any suggestions?

We recently found out about Jackson Heights and are excited about the area. Is Elmhurst Hospital defunct?

Elmhurst Hospital is alive and well, as the hospitals of the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation all are. But what you need is to find a doctor whom you trust who works in a hospital you like.

Ah okay, I saw this thread( News, Bad Economy Causes Two Queens, NY Hospitals To Close Doors, Lay Off 2,500 Employees. ) and confused Elmhurst Hospital Center with St. Johns.

As for finding a good doctor I was hoping people might chime in with their experiences here.

the schneider's children hospital @ long island jewish medical center is very good, my son was born there premature. NICU is very good there too. staff all nice and friendly, and doctors were really on top of everything. no complaints.

I totally agree. You need to find the doctor you trust 1st.

Many people can commute to a hospital to give birth in NYC since there are so many in an easily drivable radius.

Agree with the others. Don't worry about the hospital, but concentrate on finding a good doctor that you like, trust, and feel comfortable with. Generally, you baby will be born at the hospital that your doctor is affiliated with. Normally, if you go to a doctor that is in your neighborhood, the hospital will be the one closest to you. But as znycgirl as mentioned, it is common in NYC for someone to commute to a hospital that is not the closest. My brother is in Queens, but then my nephew was born, it was in St. Vincent's in Manhattan.
