I am moving to NYC this fall and as I am currently abroad I have been using Google street view to get an idea of areas I would consider living in. I was originally thinking about renting a 1-2 bed apt. in Brooklyn or Queens but as street view has limited streets available to view except the main roads, I was unable to make any decisions although I came across Woodlawn in the Bronx and I really like this type of neighborhood and the style of the homes there.

Can anyone please tell me if there are any other areas similar? The only problem with Woodlawn is the distance to Manhattan.....seems to be a bit further than areas in Brooklyn/Queens.

Thanks!

Are you Irish or English? You definitely don't want to be living in Woodlawn in if you're British as it is one of the most popular locations for Irish immigrants moving to NYC.

The housing stock here is very commonplace in the city. You can find similar houses in areas such as Southern Brooklyn and North-Eastern Queens.

Hi Mead, thanks for your message.

I am American but I am currently living in London (I am 1/4 Irish).

So what other areas in S. Brooklyn and NE Queens would you suggest that are similar to Woodlawn?

Look into places like Bay Ride in Brooklyn which is more built up than Woodlawn but is also a little bit more upper-middle class. Middle Village in Queens is nice as are Bayside and Whitestone.

Woodlawn in the Bronx and Woodside in Queens are two of the few neighborhoods where you'll find lots of Irish stuff all over the place.

Did you look at Katonah Ave in Woodlawn on that Street view? You'll see all the pubs, the chippie shop, bakeries, and whatnot.
