You better just stay put, finish high school, go to college, get a GOOD job and save A LOT money if you plan on moving to NYC.

Not sure where you're from, but a studio apartment in a nice, safe part of Manhattan (or midtown east) could run you $2000/mo. On top of that, you would have utilities to pay (electric, cable, internet, cell phone), not to mention incidentals like groceries, laundry, etc.

Don't give up on your dream, but stay put for now.

Make doable steps toward your dream. Read all you can about NYC, the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. Subscribe to the Village Voice, the New York Times, and Time-Out magazine. Read many online forums and blogs. Talk--and listen--to people who live there or have lived there. But trust your own gut once all the opinions are in.

Finish school, get a degree or training and certification in a viable trade, save your money, make some contacts in NYC, and move to NYC when you have enough money to live on while job searching in person.

This is pretty much how I did it, minus Time-Out magazine, forums, and blogs.

Take it nice and easy, and make sure you have all bases covered. NYC is not an easy place. It's not impossible either. Dreams are great. They get us going, but what keeps us going is planning, hard work, and intuition.

Your dream can come true, but be open to things no one could possibly foresee.

Good luck.

If your dream is to live in NYC, you should wait until you finish high school and go to college in Manhattan. Marymount Manhattan College has a dorm in Midtown East, so you could get an education and live in the neighborhood of your dreams. Good luck!
