Default In your experiences where do you think

has friendlier people?

1) The New York City,NY area (Northern/Central NJ, NYC, Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Westchester)

- OR -

2) The Philadelphia, PA and surrounding suburbs such as in the Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware county cities/towns?

This is part of my reasearch in a possible move.

Thanks in advance

Never having lived in the Philly area, this response is qualified.

However, on Long Island, *I* am the nicest person I know, and I am a complete jerk.

Don't move here. Really.

I have family in Exton Pa. They love it there. I guess it's not a bad commute to Philly.

South Brooklyn - Park Slope - Cobble Hill - Carrol Gardens area.
Its so hard to generalize but of the areas you have mentioned, I find South Brooklyn the most friendly although sections of Westchester are good as well.
The main thing I remember about Philly, is that they honk horns even more than New Yorkers, and that is a lot.
But, some of the nicest people I have ever met were students here in the city from Lancaster PA. Very down to earth.
Long Island is just kind of weird.

I met a few folks from Philly when I lived in Central PA. They seemed nice. I don't think you can say I have enough experience to decide. I did get lost one time in Philly with my husband. We were in an all Black (no offense) section and needed help on the train/subway. The people were VERY nice and directed us.

Long Island is diverse as far as people but having lived here on and off for 40 years I have to say most people are self absorbed and money oriented. There is a lot of pressure to keep up with the Joneses. Just being a part of your child's school (class mom or PTA) is very competive. Mothers, especially, want to live through their kids and feel useless unless their little sweetpea is in four or five activities apart from school.

If you live in a good part of Long Island and have a comfortable lifestyle (good job) you can live quite well here. If you don't have a lot of money, you will not live very well. There are quite a few 'invisible' people here (meaning you will be ignored by 'the better class' of people unless they feel you fit in with them).

I can't wait to move and STAY off this Island forever. Ever time I moved back I regret it more and more.

Having lived in Queens and on LI, but only visiting Philly suburbs, I would say the Philly burbs have the friendlier people.
