Hi,

I'm moving from Europe to NY and will need a car to commute to the north on a daily basis. I'm aware of all problems relating to cars in NY, but I have made my decision to get one!

The only open question is to either buy a one or to rent one for a year!

My question is how much approx. would the insurance be for a small vehicle like a Ford Focus or a Toyota Corolla?

Thanks!

More than the insurance, you should worry about how much a garage will cost you. There are online sites where you can get estimates of insurance. And it's 'ManhattAn.'

Hi,

SHAME ON ME FOR THE TYPO :-)

The garage costs are ok - I could check them online.

However I'm having a very hard time to get a quote for an insurance (all the online plattforms require SSN and/or drivers license number just to send you a simple quote online). Therefore I'm curious if it pays out to buy a used-car and pay the insurance or to rent a used-car incl. insurance for a reasonable price.

Thanks!

Big differences in insurance costs depending on your vehicle, you record, what neighborhood you reside in and whether the vehicle will be garaged or parked on the street. That's why you will never get a quote without a lot of specific info.

Not sure the insurance cost will be any more reasonable with a rental/lease.They might use the same parameters and it could be more.
