Thanks on this... Went to Daves in the city and picked them up for 147 including the tax... Was going to get the Aluminum tip but I opted for comfort over saftey with this one... I hope DSNY dosent require a steel tip

For all you guys waiting for Medical results. Try calling after 2 pm. The people who answer the phone and get your results are the same people that conduct Final processing. So they are away from their desks while Final Processing is happening. It usual ends around 1:30 or so and then they go to lunch. They have Final today and tomorrow. Hope this helps and good luck too all you guys waiting for results.

If your foot get run over by the tire of the truck by accident you will be very happy you didnt get the steel toes. I rather have a crushed foot then all my toes missing.

Isnt the purpose for steel toes so that in the case of say a truck running over your foot, your foot will be ok?

Steel toes only protect against so much. They are really more dangerous than regular toes. When something heavy enough goes over your foot (ie. Truck) they crush down and act as a blade.

I do not remember all the details, nor am I hear to argue anything but myth busters went to settle this whole steel toe amputation vs not Annotated Mythbusters: Episode 42: Steel Toe Amputation, Bottle Rocket Blast Off

The last test is with a heavy weight on a sharp egde, like the end of a heavy pipe. When it slams down, it deflects off the steel tip and lands higher up on the shoe, where there is no protection, cutting the shoe in half. This is the only case where the steel cap works against you, but the myth says the steel cap folds down and cuts off your toes; even in this case, the steel cap itself does not do the damage the myth claims.
