Shakespeare Avenue, Bronx, NY
Hello,
Like to inquire about the following location: 1382 Shakespeare Avenue. This is a new development that I believe is being sponsored by HPD.
The renderings look very nice and the amenities listed appear to be great.
Some of the areas I have been too seem to be okay/quite nice (mainly South Bronx area). A lot of new residential homes being built.
Just like to ask if it is near public transportation, retail stores, delis, grocery stores (such as Pathmark, Stop & Shop, etc.) and parks. Are there many different nationalities residing in this area?
Is the neighborhood clean, with any nice views/greenery? Is it a safe neighborhood (coming home around 10:00 or 11:00 PM)?
Thanks for any comments given.

I printed the ad today and I will apply ! But to answer your question, I used to live on the other side of Jerome between Jerome and the Concourse in 2004 - 2005. The side I lived on is dense with apartment buildings and a little dirty and dark looking. But the side of Jerome where the development is is less dense with some wider streets and more houses rather than apartment buildings. It seemed quieter whenever I walked over that way. On the "hood" equation, I'd put it here: Not hood -------^-- Hood. I'm not sure of the extent that correlates to safety though but the precinct is up the block. It's mainly PRs, DRs, West Africans, and Afro Americans.
The 4 train (170th) is about 4 blocks down/up the hill from Shakespeare Ave and the D is 4 blocks uphill from the 4. It's a good area if you commute by car too. Also, it's very hilly, so I'm anticipating that there may be some nice views. There are your typical "hood" stores on 170th and a supermarket on Jerome. There used to be a park near Yankee stadium but it was minimized and I haven't seen what it looks like now.
This is not my 1st choice of neighborhood, but it's a place I could deal with. I've seen it mentioned that the area has been improving. Well, that's my take on it. Good luck !

Hello JaasNYC,
Thank you so much for responding. Your comment is greatly appreciated. There's a lot to consider. Planning to apply myself. Best of luck to you as well (getting selecting).
