Yes, they can do a lot of stuff with DNA these days, I seen a similar type show on National Geographic. I find it to be very interesting, when I have some extra money I'd like to get a test done myself, there are some places out there that do it for a reasonable price, nothing close to 5ok. My ancestry is mostly Italian, but Italy was once meeting point for different people for centuries, so I would to see if there was some kind of ancestry I'm not aware of. It has come to a point where the "race is a social construct" crowd aren't worth responding to, so much of what we are is traced to our genetics, i.e., race.
