There are major shopping districts scattered all around the borough. Here's a short--and by no means all inclusive--list:

3 Avenue/86 Street in Bay Ridge

86 Street under the West End el (that's the D train) in Bensonhurst

Kings Highway between Ocean Parkway and Ocean Avenue in Midwood

Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy (that's the new Renaissance Center area)

Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie

Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint

7 Avenue in Park Slope

and let's not forget most of the entire length of Flatbush Avenue, culminating in the Kings Plaza Mall!

...and on and on, in every neighborhood!

All of these are very close to the A at Jay St.
Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn Heights/Boerum Hill between Hicks St. and 4th Ave.
Montague St. in Brooklyn Heights
Court Street in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Downtown
Smith Street between 2 Pl. in Carroll Gardens through Cobble Hill to State St. downtown

Vanderbilt Ave. in Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill
Washington Ave. in Prospect Heights
Emmons Ave. in Sheepshead Bay

Those are the ones I know at least...
