Angry When A few bad apples spoil the bunch.

I'm single Parent of (3), living in a rent stablized building. what is so unfortunate is not me being single, but other women whom on paper will tell social services that they are "single" and head of the household to receive services, when in fact the are NOT. a good few,not all will have a current baby daddy residing with them, whom does not or is not required to provide for the well being her or their child(ren). But, will walk around with their heads high and pants low thinking they got all figured out. lmao. What they don't realize is they are perpetuating and idea that people black and brown are lazy, weed smoking, fornicators, debt dodgers(rent, con ed,cable, etc.),gang related and amoral. It only took a few and like a wild fire its out of control.
My point for this is, I now see why some people view us this way and i understand it and don't like , but how I defend my counter parts when make it damn hard.
Sisters and brothers get yourselves right.

Amen Ms. Williams. Well said. I'm Latino and get called all kinds of names on this board because I speak the truth about certain types of people like the ones you've just described. I just call them as I see them. But some people on this board are quick to label me racist or whatever else comes to mind because they can't see the big picture.

I'm from the Bronx and I'm surrounded by the very same people you describe. It fustrates me because I know they are in the wrong and are scamming the system which messes it up for the good law abiding people. This is why I feel welfare/section 8 has to make their rules and qualifying criteria more strict so that people like the ones you mentioned don't scam the system that is paid by us tax payers. And if they get caught, ALL public subsides get discontinued. Hopefully that will deter people from trying to be slick and get over on the system.

So why don't you folks report the people you know are scamming the system?

Smile Thank you for your response

I wasn't sure if this would sound a rant or someone says "i'm hatin". i just felt this place gives a forum to speak. to you and other like individuals whom struggle to teach our children right from wrong, no matter what the 'HOOD' says. thank You.

Please understand if i could i would. For example section 8 does a background check on ALL occupants whom will live in an apt. You have a level 3 sex offender boyfriend living with you and registered under that address, and some of your neighbors Know and talk about it only when they have a issue, but one neighbor goes to find out if what is said is true. It is true , but you can not use that information against him or it will result in you harming him. go figure.

Easier said than done. Alot of people that complain out of fear won't report them.

As I haven't dealt with housing and background checks and all that yet (my name isn't on the lease for our apt) I can't comment on that....but other activities, I wish people would stop enforcing stereotypes altogether. And I WISH it were much harder for people to skate by being lazy.

Ghetto is Ghetto. I am in Texas right now for work until next March. And let me TELL YOU ALL, there is a whole mess of white ghetto people here. Talk about dirty, lazy and dumb! Ghetto people are in every shade. Judge the individual...not the individual's race. Don't get caught up in the stereotypes. And, mind your business...if someone is lazy...their problem, not yours...catch my drift.

Don't cry if it don't apply. FYI I'm stereo-typing anyone. when I said Black and Browns, I'm speaking as a Black woman Whom is often at the bottom of most lists for being supportive, educated, and /or honest about what we see today. I've been stopped blaming others a long time ago and started observing on what i see, and how unfortunate it is for some people mistake as something else.
