Since you were all so helpful with my last post, I'll try again. Can you give me some of the best (and/or most popular) places to eat in lower manhattan, specifically around ground zero. I'm looking for less casual places, like deli's or pizza places by the slice. I went to Zigolinio's today and was quite impressed. Places like that would be great. I'm from Chicago so I know a good deli and pizza when I see it. Thanks in advance.
I like the McDonald's on lower Broadway with the piano player. Especially when his set is over and he has to climb down the ladder without stepping on the customer's big Mac at the bottom. When I motor further down Broadway past Wall Street, not forgetting to wave at all my money, I hit the TGIFs for happy hour at 49 Broadway near the Bull.
so Burger King, McDonalds, and TGI Friday's.... thanks for the help! I've never heard of any of them and I'm sure they're authentic New York style food!
If you like old school deli, Katz's on Houston Street is worth a visit, or several visits, depdending upon the length of your stay.
Around the corner on Allen (1st Avenue above Houston), is Pala, which makes some great pizza. It's not typical pizza, as the crusts go through a lenthy process to be artisan crafted. Definitely worth a visit.
If you like Cuban food, check out Clinton Restaurant which is on Houston at Clinton. My friend's grandmother is Cuban, and they make a point of eating there, so I think that would tend to speak highly of the cuisine.
On Rivington Street, you will fine Loreley, which is a good place if you like German food. It's between the Bowery and Christie Street.
I also like Adrienne's Pizza Bar in the Financial District on Stone Street. And, you could always walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi's from Lower Manhattan.
I have heard good things about 99 Miles to Philly if you like cheesesteak, but since I don't eat them, I cannot comment personally. They're on 3rd Avenue, between 12th & 13th.

Laughed out loud at this post.
I like the Essex Deli on Liberty right across from the construction site. I also like Steve's Pizza (behind Burger King, lol), but it's just normal pizza, nothing fancy, which is my preference.
Bobby Van's for steaks if you decide to go for something fancier. Not sure of the exact location--from the WTC you walk past the NYSE to get there.

You can also come on Stone Street. When the weather is warm, every restaruant is set up outside to eat. Ulysses is my favorite. Also Waterstone Grill and Becketts are good.
