1500k is enough for Forest Hills. It's a great area. Austin Street has the best shopping and Resturants. If you rent, the only extra fee will be your electric and cooking gas, unless it's included. Maitinence fees are if you own a condo or co-op. Whatever you do, make sure your apartment is legal.

Nice neighborhood. Probably the best in Queens.
Housing is overpriced. 200 Sq. Ft. Studios go for no less than 950/m.

Forrest Hills is definitely expensive compared to most other places in Queens, but I think its definitely worth the expense.

Not all of Forest Hills is congested and hard to park. The area that boarders Middle Village is very quiet and easy to park.

Did anyone see that Forrest Hills Gardens was recently awarded the prize of being the best "village" in the USA? I suppose this will only help to further increase the price of real estate there.

parking is difficult and the subway to the wall st area will be at least 45 minutes

This post makes me so glad I am leaving this area. Before, when I was planning to stay and buy something, Forest Hills was one of the areas I was considering (and I have a car)

That is generally my main complaint with Queens. It is fairly built up and in many parts has the density of parts of Brooklyn, but people love their cars in Queens and are unwilling to give them up. So as a result you have insane grid-lock going on for large parts of the day.

Forrest Hills is very nice, clean and with a more suburban feel than other parts of Queens. I grew up in Suburban Detroit, and it reminds me a lot of some of the nicer suburbs there.
