I will never do it again...since 9/11 all the fun has been taken out of it....it used to be like a really big NIGHTTIME BLOCK PARTY...

after 9/11 its become a shell of its former self...its Very much a police state

You must get there by 1230 Pm on NYE to get a spot up front to have a view of the ball and have confettee drop on you this is with the 47 street area....

You cannot leave for anything NO Bathroom, No Food, No Drinks..If you do you must walk back up to Central Park South and Come back down 7 Av and you lose your Spot even if you're with a group. (So we're talking about almost 12hrs of standing in one spot)

After the ball drops TSQ clears out faster than anything I've ever seen...Were talking within 15mins the place is totally deserted...people head to Midtown Clubs and Bars or even downtown to After Parties...

pre 9/11 NY's it was worth it...post 9/11 Not my idea of a good time....now i just go right to my favorite lounge down in the Village and party it up there...we get there around 9-ish its still nice and roomy, by 11 the place fills and we countdown with Dick Clark....and the party goes until 4am, the DJ we had last year just killed it with the hits.

But you should try it once for yourself so you can say you did, then you can give an opinion.
did it twice in the late 90s, (pre 9/11/01) and still it was no fun. Because we didnt get there at noon (crazy!) but rather around 9pm we were stuck several blocks away. Still crushed in a crowd, still freezing cold, and just to see a ball drop and say happy new year? No thanks. We did manage to smuggle in a few beers in back packs, but remember this was pre 9/11/01 security. Don't do it.

Or do it and log on here next year telling others how you had a bad time and why they shouldn't do it.

Default yes

in 78-79 and 88-89. i think it was more exciting back then because it was more dangerous than it is now. i mean really, if you escaped without getting mugged (especially in 78-79) you felt like you really did something right!

part of the thrill was knowing you were going to a dangerous place. i will never forget when the cold breeze was blowing and my hat fell off my head and a drug addict picked up my hat, gave it back to me and said in the most frightening screwy voice i have ever heard "SEE I WASN"T GONNA TAKE IT!!!"

one always remembers those times

there's no more thrill today in times square

Okay, I think New Years in Times Square is one of the most overrated events ever. I went once a while ago and wasted 8 hours of my life. I left a 9PM to go out to some roof party with a friend and friends, friend and had a MUCH, MUCH better time. There's nothing that really goes on besides a bunch of people rubbing up against each other to see a ball drop and confetti descend from the heavens. Now, if an actual party happened it'll be awesome but once the ball drop everyone disperses anyway. OVERRATED. Sorry.

I figured. I knew that it was different back then and while I wasn't even thought of at that time I could only imagine.

Agreed. I have only been here a month and I already pretty much hate going into t.s. Too touristy and Disney/corporate-ty.

NYE 2008 I went there- I got a great view, I was pretty close to Rays Pizza, I saw the ball drop, and we left. I'll tell you one thing. It was the coldest night of my life. It was I think 20 something degrees, and it felt below zero. It was rediculous. I'm moving to Staten Island next year, but I'm never ever going back to see the ball drop unless I seriously have nothing to do, a good coat, and alot of friends with me.

Not my idea of a good time. Got roped off once on the way to an event further uptown. Had to sweet-talk and practically beg a police officer to let me and my girlfriends through. That was fun. Nevertheless, never again.
