You said it yourself YOU THINK your plan is solid, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW HOW SOLID... I can tell you right now your plan is WEAK ..... Joining the Navy/ Army is a lot better exp. both educational and work wise then finding odd jobs on Craigs list.......and will give you the experience you will need to fight terrorism in NYC You will also have accomodations and health care.... The jobs you mentioned above you be lucky if you can afford a day/nite in NY regardless if its a roomate or a park bench.
Geez cut the kid a break. Did you ever think the army isnt for everyone?
that's the problem.........let a KID know the TRUTH so they dont fail. and they know how to plan successfully..... Army is way better then wasting your life with the jobs he mentioned above at least it prepares you for many jobs and if you want to become a NYPD you BETTER have some exp when it comes to Terrorisim and your not going to get that exp. delivering pizza or cleaning someones bed pan. NYPD also looks at milatary background as a PLUS when they hire
I am deaf in one ear. I can't get in the military. I actually wanted to be a Marine. And it's about 450-600 a month on average with a roomate. If I make 7.50 an hour, and work 4 hours a day, I'd make a little over 30 a day, which would equal about 850 a month, which is enough for food and living. I'm sure that's enough. I wish I could join the military, but It's not possible.
IF you;re deaf in one ear your're not qualified to be a NYPD or the FDNY or EMS.......not sure about the sanatation dept.
I already checked the requirements. My dream is still possible. Regardless of anything, next year I'm going to give it all. Worst comes to worst, I come back here and get started here
He wants to be a cop, .. you make it sound like he wants to be an actor or mayor.
He wants it bad and has good attitude and is not going to let people like you discourage him.
NYPD does not hire COPS if you are DEAF in one ear..and they don't accept applicants when there is a hiring FREEZE.......
there was a movie about this subject called Copland with Sylvester Stallone and I think Dinero where a guy wanted to be a NYPD and he was deaf in one ear and from Philly........
He would have a much better chance becoming a Actor or Mayor ...lol from reading his posts HE is already doing a remarkable JOB.... and fits the bill to be a GREAT POLITICIAN or ACTor

I still am going for it and giving it my all and fighting to hopefully become an NYPD officer. My uncle actually luckily is moving there and has a job offer and offered to take me in so I think I'm set with housing now.

If you go to CSI you should live on Staten Island. You could most likely get away without owning a car as there are many bus lines here. Living in Brooklyn doesn't make sense. You would have too long a commute by subway/bus and driving over the Verranzano Bridge is about $11.00 now.
Check on the deafness. I can't imagine that the NYPD would hire someone who is hearing impaired.
That's great that you will have family in the city with whom you can stay, since it will make it that much easier to go to school and find a job to support yourself, without having to worry about a mortgage/rent on your own.
Look into the cadet program when you become eligible, after a certain number of college credits. It would give you a part-time job while attending school, and would enable you to get good job training with the NYPD.
And, until you become eligible for the cadet program, why not see if you could become a member of the NYPD auxiliary, if your work/school schedule would allow. It would be a great way to meet members of the force, and get some insight into the workings of the NYPD.
Good luck with whatever path you take, and thanks for even contemplating the notion of serving the people of New York.
