This is why people don't like southerners. Why don't you write us an article about cross-burning?

/\ Between the "cocky" thread and this, I'm tired of Middle-America whoever's coming on here trashing this state like it's some sort of cesspool. NY contributes a hell of a lot more soilders to the War on Terror than any Red State. Not to mention we took 9.11 on the nose. We fought the revolutionary war and we had Successful people of all colors before the South even heard of the concept of "Civil Rights".
Does this state have issues? Sure does. But we built this nation into what it is today and we contine to be a leader. Even mighty California and Florida are slowly fading away (read: exodus) while NYC and enviornes blossom. I guess George Washington had a pretty damn good reason to call us the Empire state huh?

She sounds like she's trying to write a lifestyle article, not starting a political debate between the north and south. You sound bitter and looking for an outlet to release all that angst.

okay. i just don't get what it is about the op's comment that made you think they were being critical along these lines.
as a born/bred southerner from a state with high immigration (florida), i agree that there's more anti-ny sentiment in the south than ny deserves. part of it is that southerners (like many westerners) like their environments to stay rural, and immigrants will naturally upset that (and some ny-ers seem to similarly resent people immigrating to their city, in part due to it driving up rents). another part of it is a culture clash. southern culture can be very laid back and interpersonal, and resentful of folks trying to push a more fast-paced, anonymous life. it's also more wary of outsiders.
i personally think the ny way of life is the better way to go.

I am 15 mins from the beach on Long Island, 45 mins to one of the greatest cities in the world (I can actually take a train into the city), and 2 hours from the mountains. Yes, it is expensive (obviously - you have anything you could ever want at your fingertips), but you can't get that in NC. I know first hand because my fathers job relocated us to Charlotte and when I graduated high school I came running back to NY for college.

The only ones they dislike more then people from New York are people from New Jersey.
They have the idea that everyone from Jersey talks and acts like Tony Soprano.
