I am thinking about taking the Q35 from the Junction to Jacob Riis Park on Memorial Day. Advisable or not so much? I'm completely unfamiliar with the area. Is it safe, clean, etc? I assume it will be packed on Memorial Day. Just looking for some general info. Thanks.

It's clean, and safe...and just as you suspected, it'll probably be packed over the Memorial Day weekend.

You could also take the A train (transferring to the Rockaway shuttle at Broad Channel) to Beach 116 Street. The entire beach from there to Riis Park is great. If you walk as far west as the 140s, you'll find yourself in Neponsit--which behaves like a private community (although it's not). Rockaway beach in the area of Neponsit and Belle Harbor has to get strong consideration as one of the best beaches on the entire eastern seaboard!

Uh oh...those Queensians are going to come after me; I've just blabbed their secret!

It is safe, clean?? umm, not the greatest.
Riis park isnt the greatest beach, you are better off going to neponsit, behind the fence. It is quieter. Riis tends to get a lot of loud radio playing, but if you like that, then that is good.

It is not a pretty beach at all, nothing has been done to improve it in over 20 years.

but everyone has their own level of good and bad. I personally think it is a shi**y beach.

Riis has been rough for a lot more than 20 years. The facilties are run down too. It will be very crowded Memorial Day Weekend. 116th St. can get a rough crowd on Memorial Day weekend too, but even that is better than Riis.

I think your route from the Junction is fine and Riis is safe. It is true that the changing facilities, and restrooms have not been well maintained..
