I agree with Williamter

We lived on the 8th floor of a building on third ave in Gramercy Park area. Until we moved out to Brooklyn, I didn't realize the ambient noise that you absorb. Sirens, honking, car alarms. We were lucky and only heard parties spilling out in the street on St. Pats day or New Years Eve. We had pretty good neighbors in general.

More expensive compared to what? The trendier neighborhoods close to Manhattan in Queens are as, or more expensive.
