Just what the title ask. I was born in Miami but lived in NYC since I was in 3rd grade. Can I call myself a NYer? Or would that make me a fake?

I consider myself a Texan who lives in Manhattan even though I've lived here for decades off and on. It's up to you where you consider your home, isn't it?

Go right ahead, say it! "Yes, I'm a New Yorker." If you've found a way to survive and even thrive in NYC since the 3rd grade, you own the right to call yourself a New Yorker. Use that term liberally when you travel. Mention it casually at parties. Put it on your license plate. Win the admiration of people the world over . . . You're a true New Yorker!

Sure, you can call yourself a "New Yorker",

but just not a "Native New Yorker" which is much more authentic!

Don't see the point of this. Who are you trying to impress?

Not what I'm saying. Almost all the threads ask for a real nyer's opinion, so I just wanted to be sure. In Crown Heights, no one wants to admit they are a nyer. Apperently, we're all carribean folk. So its not really a big deal, cuz I won't use it in everyday life.
