hhusted, well said I agree with you 100%! I have some family in Macon, Georgia so I'm maybe relocating there soon.
If you have money or a well paying and sstable career, NYC is not overrated. In fact it's all its cracked up to be and then some.
If you're broke by NYC standards than NYC sucks because everything is simply more expensive. Hence, your standard of living is even worse than living out in the boonies.
If you really want to enjoy NYC you need at least 15k of discretionary spending (after rent, groceries, bills, savings) a year. That's when you begin to see what NYC has to offer.

Completely agree if you have money to spend this city is by far the best in America like not even close. But most ppl can't really enjoy everything the city has to offer.
What about NYC traffic. The world's most dangerous highway. NYC has a reputation of having the worst traffic in the world. I know because I live in the city and see it for myself. LA may have traffic, but if you look at the stats, the ratio of accidents in NYC compared to LA is twice as high.
Ohh I think you're gonna love what NYC has to offer;
A large population of bedbugs, and rodents. Topped with an increasinly growing number of roach infestations.
I think you're gonna love the NY subway system, especially in rush hour, when you find yourself waiting for a train along with 200 other people on a platform competing for standing space on a jam-packed train. I think you will also enjoy the rents, and the probabbility of ever becoming a homeowner in the city.
Now, if you have a car, you will very much be pleased by thought of having to pay at least 200 a month for a parking space, otherwise, you'll have the pleasure of parking your car on the street and having to move it every second day.
I see that you're coming from the South. so I think you'll really like the snow blizzard the city gets from time to time, when you have to shovel 4 feet of snow think of it as nice work out.
Other than people who say you won't like NYC are really clueless
