I have skylights and it's HOT- Help! It's become very clear already that the amount of heat that pours through the skylight rapidly heats up the unit. In walking through our townhouse complex, I've noticed a few units that have covers over the skylights. They look to be made of the same material a solar screen would be made of and sit right on the exterior of the skylight, and do not look to be a permanent installation.

So, I'm hoping someone can help me out. Does anyone know where I can go get such a skylight cover? I've searched online and I'm at a loss on where to start - any recommendations?

You need a window tinting specialist, since no two skylights may require the same cover. Sometimes, if the skylight is flat, you can have interior film installed to reflect solar gain, but domed or pyrimidal skylights, for example, will need a cover.

You could contact a company such as New York Window Film, and also check the Franklin Report for some other potential companies. It's not something that you could easily buy, unless the manufacturer of the skylight has a standard fit cover that you could purchase.

This sounds like it could be a good question to ask the management of your complex.

Thanks for the replies I've heard awful things about window tinting for skylights because the surface isn't perfectly flat it ends up cracking and looking terrible.

I found a couple of skylight covers online. I've looked at a coolerhouse
Hendee and Solar-Shade. Solar-Shade.com Commercial & Residential Skylight Covers | New York Skylight Covers has the best pricing so far.

Thanks for the help!

True, if there is a bubble, you want a cover, not film. Glad to hear that you're finding some places to get a cover.
