Hello There
We are a family with 2 kids 8 and 12.We are thinking of relocating to Mexico
NY from Europe. We have previsiouly lived in Queens.
The cost of houses seems amazing and we could buy outright for about $125000.00.Would anyone have any advice on schools and jobs etc?

Mexico NY is between Rochester and Syracuse and south of Pulaski and west of Oswego.

Never been there, but I can tell you its probably a one horse cow town. Nothing at all like Queens.
Its going to be pretty rural.
Not saying its not a nice place, but depending on where you are moving from in Europe, it may be a huge change.
But hey , you might like that. Definatly not going to be making the big bucks with whatever work you can find in these small towns (or getting good job and having a long, tho traffic free, drive to a city). on the other hand.. The cost of living is very low in these places cause there isn't much money there to begin with. If youre gonna drop $125k to start you can definatly buy a nice + large home outright.

Not sure if you are aware of this...... but there ARE cities in Upstate NY. Syraucse is pretty close to Mexico, NY and Rochester isn't too far either. The job market in those two areas is enough to give them plenty of affluent areas.

Of course Im aware of it ! Im FROM Upstate!
Yeah Angelica (e.g.) or any other of a 1000 southerntier towns are technically close to Buffalo and Rochester...
does that mean you want an hour drive to get anywhere everyday? With gas prices rising?
(I know Mexico is closer to Syracuse than that.. Id still call 30 miles a haul)

lol.... 30 minutes is a haul ONLY in upstate ny. That would be a commute to kill for in New York City, Altanta, LA or almost any other city.

Tks Guys for help
Well we are coming from Ireland and have been living in a small country town with a pop approx 3000.My husband is commuting to Dublin an hour away.
An hour by Irish standards is a looong commute.
We are looking for a semi rural town and a commute of 30 miles does not seem to bad.My biggest issue is a nice neighbourhood and a good school.
I have looked at different towns even one called Fulton.I dont want to live anywhere thats like Queens so no worries there!
Any more advice narrowing it down would be great
Cheers
