Well.... Lake front is pricey. But not nearly as crazy as the Cape. 200,000 --> 400,000 will get you something decent for sure. I also happen to work at Fitz, are you leaving Pilgrim?

Ooops --> the bike path part is a toughy. Route 104 and a couple of other roads are considered to be biking path around Lake Ontario. As far as a true biking path Livepool, NY is the only one I can think of.

If you don't want a long daily commute to Scriba (where the plants are) Oswego or Mexico would be your best bets.

Mexico is a small rural village east of the plants with a very tiny downtown. There is a lakefront public park for swimming and picnics and a large horse stable in town.

Oswego is a city of about 18,000 with a college that provides cultural and intellectual activities. There's a sufficient number of stores for everyday living with a nice mall 25 minutes away in Clay. There are summer concerts and a farmer's market and the city is lined with frontfront promenades and marinas. You won't find this type of Cape Cod living if you settle in the Syracuse area.
The avg price of a home is $79, half of what it is in Onondaga County (Syr area). Plus there are no areas to avoid.

Last winter there was over 10 feet of snow in that area. That sounds really bad to me.

BAH!!!!!!!! No big deal. Never missed a day of work and never got stuck. 1 good thing about Oswego, is the DPW does a very good job keeping streets passible. If you hate snow, take a job in Hurricane alley, down in New Orleans/Mississippi area.
Peace
