Default Newburgh is really NOT that bad...

I've been reading through these forums and I see so much negative energy about Newburgh (some make sense, some don't).

About 90% of Newburgh is fine and not bad at all. The bad part of Newburgh is around the hospital area. Say from east of 9w (Robinson Ave) to Grand St, south of South St to north of Washington St are the really bad areas. Most of the crime that takes place is between people who know each other - It's mostly drug releated or a turf war.

I went to NFA about a decade ago even though lot has changed since then people still said NFA was bad back then. My experience through the Newburgh Schools (North Junior - no more now and NFA) wasn't bad at all. Yes, there were fights, food fights and even someone lit a garage can on fire, but what school doesn't have these things?????? You mind your own business and hang around the good people and these things are just funny to someone like me - back then at least. How many schools offer as many programs as NFA does???? NFA literally offers anything you can imagine. Go to some other Urban school and they don't even have 20% of the things NFA has...

Just tried of people thinking Newburgh is a dump. The crime per capital is high because it's a small city. Like any other city in America there are really bad parts and really good parts.

90% is nice? I wouldnt say that, Mabye if your adding in the town. 75% of Newburgh City is a complete hell hole. I believe in both 2008 and 2009 murders were over 10. Pretty terrible for a place with less than 30,000. And the area South of South St is pretty terrible too. Benkard, S William, William streets are horrible. Take a drive down William St and tell me its not bad.

I did include the town, but let's just talk about the city. The northwest side is probably the best - west of 9w (Robinson Ave) and north of south st. The development around I-84. Another decent spot is Broadway and south st and around Washington's Headquarters.

I know some roads are bad - Pierces rd is awful and has been that way for years on end. Let's not forget with the 4 seasons and snow and salt there is always bound to be bad roads in this part of the country.

There are many people trying to make a difference in Newburgh or at least follow what Beacon has done.

Im not talking about the road conditions. On Benkard, S William and William St, Im talking about the buildings and low lives standing outside all day long. That area looks like an episode of the wire. Lets not forget thats where all of the mexican/ latin gangs are mostly located. North of Broadway mostly black, and lately most of the crime/ murders in Newburgh have been a result of the latin gangs.

Maybe they should have the town and city come under 1 government. It could also allow for Newgurgh to grow in the areas where it is stable.

Yea right, Like the town of newburgh residents would go for that. The city is so run down, I believe there is only ONE BANK in the whole city!

but it seems like the city has a lot of potential for gentrification and for revitilization due to it's location and architecture.

The Town of Newburgh will never merge with the City of Newburgh. There is zero incentive for the town to do it anyway. Major problem is the government sending welfare people to City of Newburgh who provide zero tax base to the city.

Newburgh has some rich history and it's a prime location yet those idiots and fools who live there don't give a damn.

Again the worst area in Newburgh is right around the hospital. All the pigs live there. It gets better towards North St.

agreed. The Heights area is a good example of some of the positive energies in Newburgh, although the further West you travel the more ghetto it does become. At least they're not asking $500K plus for the shell like they do in Bed Stuy. The local govt though is really aweful. Get those dummies out and you might have a chance to get this prime real estate location off to a start!
