This is by far the best definition. Dutchess County is downstate since MNRR has hourly service from Poughkeepsie to GCT. Go across the river into Ulster County you are upstate. It's all a state of mind. A New York state of mind.
Yea basically upstate starts wherever Metro-North service ends lol
Upstate is basically north of Albany..North Country. West of there is Central NY then Western NY.
Huh? I've never heard that before. Upstate NY can range from being just north of the Bronx/Westchester border to some saying north of the Hudson Valley/Catskill area. It depends upon who you ask and talk to, but I've never heard the anything north of Albany thing.
Orange, Rockland, Dutchess [South of Pou], Putnam, Westchester and points South = Down. Any county that does not have rail service via MNRR is up to me.
