Huh? I've never heard that before. Upstate NY can range from being just north of the Bronx/Westchester border to some saying north of the Hudson Valley/Catskill area. It depends upon who you ask and talk to, but I've never heard the anything north of Albany thing.

"Yonkers, the station stop is Yonkers!" I miss riding Metro North.

All parts North of the suburban Westchester and Putnam counties, I would consider to being upstate NY.

Orange, Rockland, Dutchess [South of Pou], Putnam, Westchester and points South = Down. Any county that does not have rail service via MNRR is up to me.

Porbably pretty subjective but western ny is anything west of a Binghamton-Syracuse line. Upstate would be anything north of a Binghamton-s MA line.
