Any ex-Montrealers? (Plattsburgh: apartments, condos, college)

Has anyone moved from Montreal to Plattsburgh? Are people friendly and how was the adjustment. I wonder because Plattsburgh is only one hour drive from Montreal but the border stop must add a good 20 minute plus to the trip. I think it is a lot worse post 911. I use to go down a very long time ago. I think it has changed a bit from what I hear. A bit more happening. Most apartments don't seem pet friendly which would be a problem for me and my two fur babies. Any thoughts?

I haven't crossed the border for Montreal post-9/11 but I enjoyed visiting college friends in Plattsburgh in the couple years pre-9/11 & our trips to Montreal then were lovely....

I've done that trip plenty of times post 9/11 (pburg to montreal). I've only been help up at the border 2 times but that was my fault. Most times I was over the border in under 5 min. Most places I lived in Plattsburgh allowed pets, but those were more college areas by the college. I don't know how the other apartments/condos are.

Really only five minutes held up? How recently though? With the dollar coming close to U.S. it will mean more traffic. Thanks for the imput.
