It depends upon what you're looking for.

Corning is on the south end of Fingerlakes Region. Attractions close by would be the Corning Museum of Glass, beautiful wine country to North (Hammondsport, for example), Letchworth State Park to the North, Watkins Glen.

The area Corning is in is a good place for a vacation from July through October. The closest Finger Lake to rent a cottage on is Seneca Lake. Watkins Glen is only 15 minutes from Corning and is at the center of Wine Country. There are lots of museums, wineries, antique stores and art festivals throughout the summer. The people here are friendly and love to have a great time. From Corning you can drive to just about every destination spot in the area, including Ithaca - which is a cool funky town to hang in. I left and came back here to live - I highly recommend it. Go the websites for Finger Lakes Wine Country and the Steuben Convention and Visitors Bureau - tons of information there to set up a travel itinerary.
