Mahopac Neighborhood Inquiry... (Rye, Yorktown, Mamaroneck: real estate market, co-op, house)

Thinking about moving from a co-op in Mamaroneck NY to a house in Mahopac NY. Can any one give me there opinion on the neighborhood and school system.

Mahopac schools are blue-ribbon. There is a half-day kindergarten (Mahopac Falls), 3 Elementary schools, and 1 of each - Middle and High. Mahopac is very conveniently located close to I-684, Taconic and MetroNorth. The village center is right by Lake Mahopac, with few restaurants and some businesses located there. There is a wonderful library right on the lake, with awesome classes and after-school activities for children and classes for adults. Bike trail is going through Mahopac, you can run/bike/walk/rollerblade for miles and miles - it is very scenic. Very nice community overall, and real estate market is definitely buyers-oriented right now! It should be a very good move for you - good luck!!!

I live in the area, but am on these boards frequently as I am looking at posts from the southern states, so you can PM me with questions. I live next to Mahopac in Northern Yorktown. I had a house in Rye Neck (mamaroneck) for a couple of years so I am familiar with both. To help you better, I would need to know what you are looking for specifically. Is traffic / commuting an issue? School requirements? I mean, there are mostly good schools in mostly all of the Westchester area academically, but are there other requirements you need?
