Check out Rockland and lower Orange Counties Many have great small towns and all withing 1hr from the city

i agree kingston is great, but its a little more than "an hr away from the city" its along the hudson so you've got mass transit as far as trains and stuff go.
kingstons great. i like it in the fall.

there are some great little towns on the island also and if you are driving at 3 oclock sunday morning there are even more an hour away. The further east you go the better. westhampton beach and Quogue if i spelled it rite are just two that are very nice. and if you take the train it is an hour anytime.

i think geneseo NY is the best town in NY. it is 6-7 hours from NYC. about 10,000 live there. nice schools. it has a great college.

Default For My Money, Warwick Happens To Be The Nicest...

I may be biased (since I'm selling land in Orange County) but I feel Warwick is the nicest town/area just north of NYC. And it is one hour away. Moderator cut: advertisingTwo building lots ready to go. I am not a developer, just a guy who moved here right after 9/11 from lower Manhattan and loves it....so come on up.

I like piermont and nyack Reminds me of the village, arts , theatre, right off the water, walk to everything in town, hiiking trails, views of the hudson farmers market in the summer, cafe's etc

i live in neewburgh in orange county(definetly not it). But warwick is very nice, but very expensive. Cornwall is pretty nice too along with Goshen and Washingtonville. Look into them.
