I am in my early 20's and will be relocating for work to the Oneonta area. I am from Chicago and am going to miss the city atmosphere. So far, I have checked out Albany, but have not been impressed. I really like Saratoga Springs but do not like the long commute I would have to Oneonta from there. Any suggestions for towns closer to Oneonta with activities and upscale housing options? I also want to live somewhere that I can easily meet new people, as I am relocating with no family.
if you will find that unless it is in Oneonta. There isn't another bigger city that is closer than an hour away. Binghamton or Utica would be other cities that are within an hour or so away, and those two are smaller than Albany.
Oneonta is a college town and might not be too bad, but it's all about what you are used to. Cooperstown is a nice village that is close by, but is more of a touristy town. Here's info. on the area:Welcome to the Official Website for Oneonta, New York
I honestly can't imagine why anyone (especially in this era of expensive gas) would want to commute from Oneonta to Albany! (or Saratoga Springs!) That's an awfully long commute.
Oneonta is a small city in a very rural area... you're just not going find anything Chicagolike in the vicinity, I'm afraid. But the Oneonta area is beautiful and has its own charms.
Oneonta is a cute town with beautiful scenery, unfortunately just not to my personal liking.
I do have an apartment available for my use in Oneonta during the week, so i would only be commuting on the weekends to a place of my own. I want a place that I can escape to on the weekends with many cultural options at hand (which is why I am interested in Saratoga).
Also, my company pays for my fuel, so that is not an expense for me either.
I thought about saying that, but I wouldn't think someone would make that trek.
