If you find your way going through Andes then Hogans pizza, probably the best pizza in the southern tier, if you like real NYC, Island style. And across the street is the Andes Hotel, generally really good food, some of the best fish and chips I think I had every had and they have some other fancy city folk food as well. There is a place called the Slow down behind the hotel very good, and Cassie's which is probably the best down home place to chill and have some home cooked food.

Don't know if they've got pizza, but the best restaurant I think I've been to - ever - is the New World Cooking Co. in Saugerties, NY (near Woodstock). Absolutely excellent!! Make a reservation - always busy. Check out the menu at Ric Orlando's New World Home Cooking and New World Catering

For the Utica area:
O'Scugnizzo for pizza. They put the cheese on the dough, cook it, then add the sauce. Awesome pizza - O'scugnizzo's Pizzeria - Order Pizza from Utica Online There's a bunch of great Italian places - Joey's, Grimaldi's, Chesterfield, Ventura's, Cafe Canole, Georgio's in New Hartford. You can't go wrong with any of them. Grab some canoli from the Florentine or Caruso's. Try a "pusty" as well. Utica has a few unique items worth trying - Tomato pie, Utica greens, and Utica chicken riggies. |

Add Emiliani's to your list if you like Italian and plan to pass through Saugerties. For those that may be headed to other areas it is right off the NYS Thruway...get off the Saugerties exit, and make a right at the light. Go about a half-mile and it's on the left hand side across from Dunkin' Donuts and Price Chopper. It is superb!

My favorites are "The Italian Kitchen" and "Autumn Cafe" in Oneonta. Great pizza at the former and a great buffalo burger at the latter (as well as a good beer selection). The "Main St. Grill" in Afton is pretty good too, but only open for dinner on a few days a week I think.
