Default Vestal, NY

HI,
I am a single mother of 2 currently living on Long Island. I am planning to go back to school full-time, yet financially cannot afford to do it here! I am interested in going to Binghamton University, and renting in Vestal. it would greatly be appreciated if anyone is familar with these two apartment complexes: Hollybrook and The Meadows. It seems to be that the public schools in Vestal have gotten high ratings from greatschools.net.( except for the African Road Elementary) If anyone is able to give me an idea of what these two complexes are like, it would be of great assistance to me. Thanks Again!

I don't know anything about those two complexes but I happen to like the Binghamton area despite how most people feel about it. Also, I hear Binghamton University is a very good school. I probably didn't help you much but thats my opinion.

I am temporarily living at Holly Brook Apartments....rent is fair and management is good fixing things promptly - The Meadows is a little more modern I hear and closer to Binghamton University, but if you have kids they might have to go to binghamton school district....Vestal is a great school district, not sure how Binghamton rates.

I have a number of family members who have moved to villages about 20 minutes from Binghamton over the past 2 years and they all love it. The university has a wonderful reputation and the people up there are very friendly and welcome you. I moved to Florida a few months ago and hate it and am now relocating up there in October. I know this does not answer your questions about the apartment complex, but I thought I would just let you know about the experiences my family has had up there......oh by the way we are all from Long Island and regularly meet people from the island who have moved there and love it. When you get up there you should try the Silo for a great sunday brunch, or if you want to take a drive go to Gus's Steak house in Norwich, the owners are from wading River, they are related to the owners of J.R's Steak house on L.I.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for your help...It eases my mind a lot!! My main concern was the quality of the apartment complexes, you hear too often on these boards that Binghamton is an extremely run down city, yet BU is one of the best ( AFFORDABLE ) school in the SUNY system. From all the pics I have seen, the city has a lot of potential, I just want to be sure that it will be safe. It seems that Vestal is the way to go, lots of shopping and the best schools!
